For our R&D department at our production plant Tilburg we are looking for a

Associate Scientist

This role has two key responsibilities:

  • Daily execution of biodegradation tests
  • Interpretation and reporting of results

In this position, you will be part of the analytical R&D activity surrounding the area of Biodegradation Testing for Taste, Scent, and Natural Products within IFF.

The role is mostly a benchwork role and requires a hands-on mentality. Resolving minor instrumental errors is part of the role. Formal communication with internal customers is mostly within the English language.

Where You’ll Make a Difference

  • Sample registration and preparation including cryo-milling.
  • Executing biodegradation tests including preparation of inoculum and mineral medium.
  • Physical and chemical analysis including COD, elemental analysis, TOC and microscopy.
  • Interpretation and reporting of results to cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to method improvement and enhanced workflows.
  • Work independently under guidance of experienced colleagues.

What Makes You the Right Fit

  • B.Sc. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related with at least 2+ years of industrial experience.
  • Understanding of instrumental analytical techniques such as GC, elemental analysis and TOC.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

How Would You Stand Out?

  • Experience with executing standard biodegradation testing methods
  • Experience with writing formal documents such as SOP’s.
  • Experience with executing GCMS
  • Experience with OECD-GLP
  • Experience in the flavour, fragrance, food, consumer products, or pharmaceutical industry.
