Summary of Role:
The Microbiology Technologist I performs routine clinical microbiology testing in accordance with established laboratory procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
This position supports daily laboratory operations including specimen processing, culture setup, documentation, and quality control activities. The Microbiology Technologist I works under direct supervision and is expected to follow all standard operating procedures precisely while progressing through structured training and competency assessments.
This role reports directly to the Microbiology Supervisor.
Responsibilities-
- Processing and handling of clinical specimens
- Culture setup and incubation according to approved SOPs
- Preparation, labeling, and storage of reagents and media
- Accurate documentation of testing, QC, and maintenance activities
- Routine instrument and equipment maintenance
- Compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory standards
Specific Duties-
- Perform routine microbiology testing under established procedures
- Set up cultures including agar plating and broth inoculation
- Enter, verify, and review results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Perform and document daily quality control and temperature checks
- Assist with organism workup and identification under supervision
- Recognize testing issues and escalate concerns to supervisory staff
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of work areas
- Monitor inventory levels and notify leadership of supply needs
- Adhere to infection control, biosafety, and PPE requirements
- Participate in training, annual competencies, and continuing education
- Comply with all CAP, NYSDOH CLEP, OSHA, and laboratory policies
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Education Requirement:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or related degree required
Licenses/Certification Requirement:
- Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required
- Current certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required
Experience-
- 01 year of clinical laboratory experience is preferred. Entry level role appropriate for new graduates.

Work Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday (9AM – 5:30PM)
Pay Range: $42.00/hour to $51.00/hour
