Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – Blood Bank
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Pay Rate: $30 - $35/hour
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night Shift
Schedule: 4x10 Hours | 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Hours: 40 Hours Per Week
Assignment Type: Contract | Local or Traveler
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join a high-volume Blood Bank and Transfusion Services department. The MLS will perform routine and specialized compatibility testing, evaluate laboratory results, maintain quality control standards, and support the preparation and distribution of blood products for transfusion.
Responsibilities
Perform routine and specialized Blood Bank testing and compatibility studies
Conduct ABO/Rh testing, antibody screening, antibody identification, and antibody typing
Perform immediate spin, IgG, and electronic crossmatches
Conduct indirect Coombs testing and other immunohematology procedures
Evaluate and interpret laboratory results accurately
Prepare and distribute blood products for transfusion
Maintain laboratory quality control and quality assurance standards
Process specimens and ensure accurate documentation of test results
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and laboratory personnel to support patient care
Follow regulatory, accreditation, and laboratory compliance requirements
Work independently during night shift operations
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Related Field
Strong Blood Bank Experience in a Large Hospital Setting
Experience with Specimen Processing and Blood Bank Testing Procedures
Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Assurance and Regulatory Standards
Strong Analytical, Problem-Solving, and Organizational Skills
Ability to Work Independently on Night Shift
Excellent Communication and Teamwork Skills
Required Certifications
ASCP-MLS Certification OR
ASCP Blood Bank (BB) Certification
MLT Candidates
ASCP-MLT Certification Required
ASCP-BB Certification Required
Recent Blood Bank Experience in a Large Healthcare Facility Required
Technical Experience Required
ABO/Rh Testing
Antibody Screen & Identification
Antibody Typing (Tube Method)
Crossmatch (Immediate Spin & IgG)
Electronic Crossmatch
