Department Details

The Marshfield Microbiology/Molecular Pathology department provides microbiology coverage for the entire system. This position helps maintain the continuous work performed on microbiology cultures, to include much of the work coming from other hospitals in our system. Some Molecular Pathology testing is also performed in this role.

Hours are 1600-0200, on a rotating schedule. This 4-day, 10-hr, schedule rotates every three weeks and includes working every third weekend.

Summary

Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.

Job Description

Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Demonstrates critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Medical Lab Technician

    Associates degree in Laboratory Science required.
    Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

    Laboratory Technologist

    Bachelor’s degree in biology or other related field that includes 30 combined semester hours of biological science and chemistry required.
    Demonstrated lab experience, including but not limited to college laboratory experience preferred.

    OR

    Medical Laboratory Scientist

    Bachelors degree in laboratory or biological sciences required.
    Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
