Per Diem Laboratory Clerk - Lab Central Accessioning - Mount Sinai Morningside (Evening Shifts)

Performs clerical and other tasks relating to the processing and generation of laboratory results within and outside of the hospital.

1. Performs clerical and other tasks relating to the processing and generation of laboratory results within and outside of the hospital
2. Specimen handling, receiving, labeling, spinning, pouring, and dispensing to technologist
3. Enters demographics into instruments and computer for accessioning purposes
4. Transports specimens and/or requisitions and reports within the site and between sites
5. Prepares specimens for sending out to private labs
6. Collects and sorts all reports for delivery intra site and site to site
7. Maintains written logs (temperature charts, STAT delivery logs, centrifuge cleaning, and downtime logs)
8. Performs maintenance of all lab information systems and CPA laboratory equipment
9. Maintains files (daily filing, rotation of files, and transport of files)
10. Collects and sorts all reports in preparation for pick-up by messengers
11. Generates blood collection
12. Routinely works rotating weekends
13. Maintains continued compliance with policies, procedures, and record keeping necessary to meet the standards of accrediting agencies
14. Covers Inquiry desk as needed
15. Meets criteria for competency assessment in all areas
16. Observes established safety practices
17. Completes documents for Quality Assurance reviews
18. Performs general housekeeping duties as assigned to maintain a safe and sanitary environment
19. Maintains a clean and orderly work area
20. Performs Clerical functions at other St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital laboratories if required
21. Performs work assignment within expected standard of performance

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Associate's degree preferred
• Laboratory and Computer experience
• Basic MS Office Suite skills
• Typing a minimum of 50 words per minute
• Moderate Level of Physical Activity
• Exposure to Infectious Materials
• Exposure to Hazardous Materials
• Universal Precautions
