JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients for medical testing, ensuring accuracy and patient safety. This role involves working directly with patients, preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, maintaining records, and adhering to all regulatory and safety standards. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures to collect blood samples from patients of all ages
Collect other types of specimens as required (e.g. urine, stool, swabs)
Collects specimens and blood samples from contracted Nursing Home facilities, as required.
Label and prepare specimens for transport and analysis
Verify patient identity accurately and ensure proper documentation and test requisitions
Follow established procedures for patient care and specimen collection
Document collection times and dates, test requisitions, specimen details, and initial to maintain an accurate daily count of collections performed
Verify test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log; bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel
Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
Maintain cleanliness and sterility of equipment and workspace
Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare team members
Adhere to infection control protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines
Monitor inventory of phlebotomy supplies and request restocking when needed
Ensure proper stocking of supplies for phlebotomy trays and phlebotomy area
Assist with training of new phlebotomy staff or students, if required
All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program is preferred. Certification (e.g. NHA, ASCP, CPT) preferred.
Work Experience: One (1) year of experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
Frequent movement throughout the laboratory and various hospital departments and patient care areas
Requires fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to perform a phlebotomy
Frequently position self to maintain equipment, obtain supplies, access materials or instruments, etc.
Constantly operates a computer, office and Lab machinery
Ability to effectively communicate information accurately so others will understand
Ability to hear and respond to alarms, instruments alerts, and verbal communication in a noisy laboratory environment
Ability to observe details at close range
Ability to move materials, equipment, etc. weighing up to 25 pounds
