CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Supervises, orients, trains, evaluates, and monitors on-the-job performance of staff responsible for performing microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease.
2. Verifies identification of specimen with physician’s orders.
3. Prepares specimen for testing and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
4. Supervises all research and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
5. Assists in monitoring staff productivity and quality of work through proactive reviews of attendance and scheduling accuracy.
6. Initiates performance management processes that address on-going performance issues.
7. Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action and provides supervision to laboratory subordinates in resolution of similar problems.
8. Runs quality-control tests according to procedure and maintains appropriate data recording.
9. Seeks help from the section head and documents actions taken.
10. Performs and reviews quality controls in testing and decides whether results are within acceptable ranges.
11. Advises technologists and other healthcare providers on proper methods of collection of specimens.
12. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
· Knowledge of business and management principles.
· Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
· Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
· Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
· Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
