The mission of the College of Business and Public Management (CBPM), home of the Department of Geography and Planning, is to provide high quality - high value education through excellence in teaching and scholarship, community engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experiential learning. CBPM is an AACSB accredited school. The Department of Geography and Planning offers a comprehensive geography program that empowers students to tackle global challenges head-on. The current curriculum engages students with hands-on fieldwork, cutting-edge GIS technology, and interdisciplinary collaboration. 

Reporting to the Dean, the GIS Lab Manager has the primary responsibility for managing two GIS Labs and a Planning Studio to support academic programs in the College of Business and Public Management including maintaining software, hardware, internet server, data, and other resources in the labs and studio. The incumbent will provide support to faculty with teaching, research and community engagement activities. Working independently, the GIS Lab Manager will lead project teams and initiate projects in collaboration with Faculty. The position manages assigned Graduate Assistants.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of GIS systems & software, protocols, and standards; leverage their experience, expertise, and established industry knowledge to the organization’s processes and architecture; and demonstrate strong attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department & College while balancing operational priorities. The candidate can creatively problem solve & possesses analytical competence(s). The individual can effectively communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support faculty and students on research and applied projects
  • Support student lab operations 
  • Support community engagement activities
  • Maintain software, hardware, internet server, data and other resources in the labs and studio
  • Manage ESRI accounts, licenses, and other geospatial software
  • Collaborate with University Information Services and Technology staff to ensure timely software installation
  • Maintain and update hardware peripherals functions
  • Maintain servers and data 
  • Prepare technical documentation
  • Manage assigned Graduate Assistants
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Planning, or a closely related geospatial field
  • Two years of working experience in the GIS field 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geography, Planning, or a closely related geospatial field; and/or
  • Experience with GIS system administration; and/or
  • Experience leading project teams

Special Instructions

There is the possibility of working remotely occasionally subject to departmental operations.

The salary for this position is $67,036.
