Description of Work

Expected vacancy as of 5/31/2026.

The NCVDLS is an AAVLD-accredited participant in the National Animal Health Laboratory Network with BSL3 necropsy capability. The primary mission is to provide veterinarians, the animal industry, and the citizens of North Carolina with accurate and timely laboratory support services in order to diagnose, conduct surveillance, and assist in responding to and preventing animal disease. Both the protection of public health and the food supply are important components of this mission.

Professional service activities of this position are expected to provide high-quality diagnostic services for our laboratory through diagnostic pathology that includes necropsy, histopathology, case coordination, and client consultation of predominantly our avian/poultry caseload. Outreach and engaging key stakeholder groups, including veterinarians, the poultry industry, and producers, is a critical component of this position. Teaching/mentoring avian pathology to residents is encouraged and based on interest, case-load, experience, and qualifications.

Recruitment Range: $92,752 - $150,000

  • Extensive knowledge of veterinary pathology.
  • Individual must be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in North Carolina.
  • Candidate must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and have completed a pathology residency program.

Minimum Education and Experience

Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of North Carolina and advanced training in veterinary pathology, and board certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists or board eligible and two years of veterinary diagnostic laboratory experience.
