This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Shift: Varies, primarily day shift (05:00-13:30) and evening shift (13:00-21:30).

Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs all routine and complex laboratory procedures, including specimen processing and testing of patient specimens. This role calculates and reports results, conducts quality control procedures, operates and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment, assists in the development of new procedures, and may perform phlebotomy and other patient-oriented tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform all routine and complicated laboratory procedures in the assigned section.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, and notify Bio-med as needed.
• Follow the laboratory's quality control program.
• Calculate, enter, and verify results of laboratory procedures.
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System effectively.
• Process patient specimens while being mindful of pediatric specimen volume requirements.
• Participate in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new testing procedures.
• Adapt patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet individual patient needs.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory tasks and follow applicable policies and procedures.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
• Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS. Maintenance of certification is required.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a generalist is preferred.
• Experience with Sysmex, Abbott Alinity, and EPIC is a plus.
