Medical Laboratory Scientist - Blood Banking

Full-Time: 5 Days a Week, 8 Hours per Day (6:30 AM - 3:00 PM)

Job Description

This position requires a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist specializing in Blood Banking. The role encompasses performing all routine and complex laboratory procedures, including specimen processing and testing, diligent quality control, and proficient operation of lab instrumentation. The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent transfusion service skills and possess a strong commitment to patient care.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complicated laboratory procedures specific to Blood Banking.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, and make minor repairs as needed.
• Ensure the laboratory's quality control program is adhered to.
• Process and handle patient specimens with attention to pediatric specimen volume requirements.
• Cross-train in other laboratory sections as needed.
• Contribute to the evaluation and development of new testing procedures and protocols.
• Document and notify critical laboratory values obtained in a timely manner.
• Adhere to the CORE values of the organization and complete all compliance tasks.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
• Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from recognized accrediting bodies.
• One year of clinical laboratory experience, including a rotation in Blood Banking.
• SBB certification is highly preferred.
