Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company, is seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join our innovation efforts as a Microbiologist within the Global High Tech – Data Centers group based in Naperville, IL. In this role, you will execute microbiological experiments and, as needed, support routine chemical laboratory work to enable products and program innovations. What You Will Do:
Plan and perform relevant experiments and interpret results to develop solutions to complex microbiological problems related to Ecolab’s Data Center coolant portfolio
Frequently work with BSL2 level organisms utilizing novel experimental techniques as well as more standardized inhibition experiments, biofilm assays, and molecular biology-based assays.
Assist other divisional microbiologists in maintaining the lab through routine laboratory maintenance (reagent prep, inventory management, waste disposal, organization, etc.).
In collaboration with other scientists, develop new microbiology programs, products, and analytical tools to solve customer problems.
Appropriately document and communicate all research and support activities using electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs), formal/informal reports, and presentations.
Ensure that all research activities are performed with safety as the top priority.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in microbiology or a related field
Experience working in lab environment with analytical equipment
Strong understanding of microbiological analyses and processes
Ability to safely work with BSL2 level organisms
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
A high attention to detail and quality results
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task, work independently, and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in microbial ecology, biofilm assays, and non-model organism work
Ability to successfully communicate complex information in an easy-to-understand format – including reports and presentations to leadership
